Artist FAQ

The most common questions from artists — answered honestly. This page grows as more artists ask things we hadn't thought to cover.

Getting started
Do I have to be diagnosed to submit my work?

No. Art 4 AU Love US is a platform for autistic and neurodivergent artists — including people who are self-identified, late-diagnosed, or still figuring it out. You don't need a diagnosis, a letter from a doctor, or anyone's approval. If you identify as autistic or neurodivergent, you're welcome here.

How do I submit my work?

Email us at [email protected] with the subject line "Artist submission." Include your name (or the name you want credited), a brief description of your work, and at least one image. We'll take it from there.

For artists who need support with the submission process — if writing emails is hard, if you want a family member or caregiver to submit on your behalf, or if the process feels overwhelming — just let us know and we'll work with you to make it accessible.

What happens after I submit?

We'll review your submission and follow up by email within two weeks — usually sooner. We'll let you know if your work is a fit, ask any questions we have, and walk you through next steps.

If it's not the right fit right now, we'll tell you why and it will be honest feedback, not a form rejection.

Is there a cost to be featured?

No. It's free to submit and free to be featured. Art 4 AU Love US does not charge artists to participate, and we never will.

What kinds of art can I submit?

All mediums are welcome — painting, drawing, digital art, photography, mixed media, sculpture, fiber arts, printmaking, and more. If you made it and it's visual, it's worth submitting.

The one thing we ask is that it's your original work — or work you have the right to submit on behalf of the artist.

Money & sales
How does Art 4 AU Love US make money if it's free for artists?

Voluntary site support from people who believe in the mission. There's a "Support the site" option for visitors who want to contribute — it's optional, it's separate from artist sales, and it has zero effect on how your work is featured or treated here.

How do I actually get paid when someone buys my work?

When a buyer reaches out about your piece, we connect them with you directly. You handle the sale and receive payment directly — through whatever payment method you prefer (Cash App, Venmo, PayPal, etc.). We're not in the middle of the transaction and we don't take anything from it.

If you need help setting up a way to receive payments, see our Setting up payment links guide.

Do I have to report art sales on my taxes?

Generally yes — income from selling art is taxable. See our Selling Art & Taxes 101 guide for a plain-language breakdown. And if you have questions beyond the basics, talk to a tax professional.

Can I set my own prices?

Yes. You set your own prices. We don't dictate pricing and we have no stake in what you charge. If you want guidance on how to think about it, see our Pricing your work guide.

Your work & your rights
Do I give up ownership of my art by being featured here?

No. Your art is yours. Always. Being featured on Art 4 AU Love US gives us permission to display your work and share it in connection with promoting you and the platform — that's it. You keep all rights to your work and can sell it, license it, or remove it from the platform at any time.

The full details are in the Artist Agreement.

Can I sell my work in other places too?

Yes. We don't require exclusivity. You can sell on Etsy, at markets, through Instagram, anywhere. Art 4 AU Love US is one place your work lives — not the only place.

What if I want to remove my work?

Email us at [email protected] with "Remove my work" in the subject. No explanation needed. We'll process the removal within 7 days.

Can I submit AI-assisted work?

Yes, with disclosure. If your work was made with AI tools — fully or in part — we ask you to be transparent about that in your submission and in how the work is described. We don't prohibit AI-assisted work, but buyers and visitors deserve to know what they're looking at.

Accessibility & support
I have trouble with email / writing / communication. Can I still participate?

Yes. You can have a family member, caregiver, or trusted person handle communications on your behalf — we call this a "designated representative" in the Artist Agreement, and no legal documentation is required. Just let us know who you're working with and we'll communicate through them.

If you have a specific communication need or access requirement, just tell us — we'll do our best to accommodate it.

My child is autistic and makes art. Can they be featured?

Yes. For artists under 18, a parent or legal guardian manages the account and handles communications. The artwork is credited to the artist — your child — and the sale goes to them (through you as their guardian).

What if I have a question that isn't answered here?

Email us: [email protected]. We read every message and respond personally. And if your question is one we should add to this page, we will.

STILL HAVE A QUESTION?

Just ask.

We read every email and respond personally. If you asked it, someone else is probably wondering the same thing.
